Today was a day of new things.

Malaprop's Bookstore called me at lunchtime to let me know I was finally allowed to come pick up my copy of The Thorn & the Blossom, by Theodora Goss. (Today was it's release date.) Look how pretty!

You probably can't tell from the photo, but I have new glasses, too, which is today's other shiny new thing. I'm still getting used to them. Everything is so sharply in focus, and suddenly I can read words on things I couldn't before. Every time I get a new prescription, I'm suddenly eight years old again, trying on my first pair of glasses and being shocked that I can make out the individual leaves on a nearby tree.

Late this past year, I found out that I can't ever have Lasik surgery because my retinas are too thin. My husband was really sad for me, because he wanted me to be able to do things like swim in the ocean, but in a way, I was actually kind of . . . relieved. I've had glasses for so long, I don't recognize my face without them, and besides, the idea of cutting my eye - even with lasers - had me freaking out a little bit. So, I have embraced my nerd-dom anew with awesome, shiny new glasses.
